10 Things I Wish I Knew Before Having Twins
A heartfelt guide for exhausted but amazing twin parents ✨👶👶
Becoming a parent changes everything. Becoming a parent of twins? That’s an entirely different universe. 🌪️ Before I had my twins, I read all the blogs and books I could find — but nothing fully prepared me for what life with two babies at once really feels like.
If you’re here, tired and maybe questioning yourself (or simply stealing a few quiet minutes with coffee ☕️), this post is for you. From one twin parent to another — here are the 10 truths I wish I had known earlier.
---
1. ⏰ You won’t have time for anything. And that’s okay.
Forget Pinterest-perfect routines or freshly baked muffins. Some days, brushing your teeth and drinking lukewarm coffee is a victory. Be kind to yourself. You are keeping two humans alive. That’s superpower-level stuff. 🦸♀️🦸♂️
---
2. 🧠 Twins are not “double the same”
They may have shared a womb, but they are two completely different little souls. Different sleep needs. Different personalities. Different ways of crying (you’ll learn them!). Don’t expect symmetry — celebrate their uniqueness. 🌈
---
3. 🚫 Stop comparing — to others or between them
One might walk first. The other might talk first. One might be calm while the other is a firecracker. It’s not a race — and they’re not rivals. Don’t let milestones steal your peace. 💛
---
4. 🙉 People will say ridiculous things. Learn to ignore them.
“You’ve got your hands full!”
“Are they natural?” 😐
“I had mine 15 months apart, that’s basically twins.”
Smile. Nod. Move on. You don’t owe anyone your energy or explanations.
---
5. 🎢 The logistics will break you. Then you’ll master them.
Double feedings. Double diapers. Two car seats. Getting out the door is a military operation. But you’ll find your rhythm — your own beautiful chaos. Create small systems. Lay things out in advance. And when it falls apart (because it will), breathe. Tomorrow is a reset.
---
6. 💔 Your relationship will shift. Fight gently for it.
You’ll both be tired. Resentful. Distant. That’s normal. But don’t give up. Find micro-moments — a hug in the kitchen, a shared laugh over baby chaos, a quiet 10 minutes before bed. You’re in the same storm, even if you weather it differently. ⚓
---
7. 🤒 When one gets sick, the other probably will too
And you’ll get no break in between. Stock up on medicine, soft blankets, and snacks that work for upset tummies. Oh — and patience. Lots of it. 😷🧸
---
8. 😫 You are not a bad parent if you count down to bedtime
Or if you scroll your phone while they play. Or if you dream of a solo vacation. Needing space doesn't make you selfish. It makes you human. And you’re still a wonderful mom or dad.
---
9. 🔁 Routines are life-saving
Even the smallest ones. Morning cuddles. Bath-time songs. One cup of tea after they finally nap. These rhythms give kids security and give you a thread of sanity to hold onto. 🧘♀️📖
---
10. 🌟 There is magic in the madness
The way they giggle together. Their secret twin language. The way they reach for each other in sleep. Yes, it’s overwhelming. But it’s also extraordinary. There is love here that most people will never understand — because you’re witnessing a bond that began before birth. 💫👣

Final thoughts 💭
Parenting twins isn’t twice the work — it’s a whole new level of intensity, vulnerability, and yes, joy. Some days you’ll feel like you're drowning. Others, like you're flying. Just remember:
You are doing something incredibly hard — and you're doing it beautifully. 💪💕
And when in doubt, come back here. You’re not alone — I promise.
With love,
Jade Rose 🧡
